How to Prevent Sunless Tanning Disasters
Sunless tanning is one of the best ways to get tan
skin without enduring hours of harsh UV lighting. In general, sunless
tanning is safe and effective. Yet because these tans are not natural,
occasionally the end result is imperfect. There are a number of problems
that can arise from sunless tanning. Below are some of the problems that may
arise from sunless tanning and examples of how to prevent these problems.
Sunless Tanning Problems
·
Unnatural Looking Tan
Even though sunless tanners have evolved
considerably over the last several years, it is possible that your tan ends
up looking somewhat unnatural. Perhaps the color of your skin is too orange,
or the tan itself appears to be turning to a different color. There are
several possible solutions to this problem.
First, check the reviews of the tanning product you
have used. There are some tanning products which still produce yellow or
orange skin tones. If that is
not correct, another possibility is that you used too much. Many sunless
tanners tell you how to create a dark tan, and will recommend using a lot of
the product, but the way the product interacts with skin is not the same for
everyone. If it is your first time using the tanning product, you may want
to go slow, allowing the color to continue to grow on your skin before you
add more product to get your darker tan.
Finally, it is always a good idea to fully clean
yourself before applying the tanner. Dirty or dead skin can cause the
tanning agents to change color.
·
Tanner is Streaky
When you complete your sunless tanning session, you
may find that the tanner appears somewhat streaky. If that is the case,
there are several things you can do.
First, make sure you have applied it correctly. You
must apply the tanner in the manner on the bottle. Rubbing it up and down
your arms or legs is not an effective way to get a natural looking tan.
Also, make sure you are fully clean and exfoliated before applying the
tanner.
It is also possible that the tanning agents rubbed
off. Try your best not to get wet or sweat after applying your sunless
tanner. If you do, the colors may not stay correctly.
·
Color Appears to Be Flaking Off
It is also possible that you notice the new color
flaking off of your body. Most likely this is because you had dead skin
cells that you colored, and these dead skin cells are coming off. Once
again, it is a good idea to exfoliate completely before you apply the
tanner. In addition, you may want to moisturize as well, to reduce flaky and
dry skin.
Overall, if you stick to these ideas your sunless
tanner should look completely natural. There are still some additional
problems that may occur, but today’s sunless tanners have been designed to
work very effectively, so if you are having problems there is a good chance
that the fix to these problems is quite easy, and may be a user error rather
than a problem with the products.
